Emotions ran high among the staff of Divine Fijians Home Care today (DFHC) as its youngest member joined USA Netball – a dream that the company supported for years.
Elizabeth Lidi, 20, is one of two Fijians from Santa Rosa, California selected for the USA Flying Eagles training squad.
A finance officer by day, nursing assistant trainee on the side, and caregiver at night, Elizabeth adds the sport to her plate.
Looking at the load, she puts faith above all things. Her achievement was celebrated by staff members and prayed upon by Reverend Sekove Veisa.
“I will work hard and place my burdens on God. He will see me to the end,” she said.
“I recently participated in the National trials in Texas, and it was hard. But since this happened, I’m confident that I will make it.
“I’m excited for the journey, and I thank DFHC for always supporting my development.”
Elizabeth is a member of Santa Rosa Netball, a club sponsored by DFHC.
DFHC chief executive officer, Poasa Koroitamana, expressed immense pride in Elizabeth’s accomplishment.
“When one wins, we all win,” he said with tears in his eyes.
“I’m incredibly proud of what Elizabeth has achieved at such a young age.
“We will continue to sponsor the club because there are many young talents yet to be discovered.
Mr Koroitamana shared young Fijians must see the vast opportunities, other than caregiving, in the USA.
“We want our young people to do exceedingly and abundantly,” he said.
“To the other girls who did not make it, there’s always a next time. We will continue to support you.”
